Dreamlands Universe Glossary

The following terms are used in the Dreamlands Universe.  The definitions here might not be the same as in the real world due to the natue of the fictional universe.

Dreamlands Term	Definition
Great Barrier	The Great Barrier is a mystical energy shield that protects the Earth from the Old Ones and prevents mystical travel to and from the Earth. It is suspected that this shield drains most of the magical energy that is said once flowed freely upon the world.
Dreamlands	A metaphysical astral dimension that overlays the prime material word that is empowered by the  Great Barrier, which acts as a sort of physic energy dam.
Omega Watch	A group of police  officers and detectives that splintered from the Pinkertons in 1912 to form a  watchgroup dedicated to preventing the fall of the Great Barrier and fighting the occult.
Taint	The Taint is a mystical disease that springs from the Maelstrom of Forever.   This disease manifests different physical characteristics  depending on the nature of the infection.    Werewolves and Vampires are believed to be mutations caused by the Taint.
Tulpa	In mysticism a  Tulpa is the concept of a being or object which is created through sheer   willpower alone. It is a materialized thought that has taken physical form and is usually regarded as synonymous to a thoughtform.  Humans have a terrifying ability to create  a tulpa via faith, willpower, and their imaginations through their connection to the Dreamlands.  The term comes from the works of Alexandra David-Neel, who claimed to have created a tulpa in the image of a jolly, Friar Tuck-like monk which later developed a life of its own and had to be destroyed.
